Role of Freight Forwarders in Distributing the Coronavirus Vaccine

As the medical industry clears vaccines produced by Moderna and Pfizer, we at AWL are preparing strategies as to how we can distribute them in the most efficient manner. With the main task done and dusted, the challenge lies in the path of all supply chain companies so that the primary health centres, urban Health Centers and community health centres get the supply of the vaccine that is critical to ensure the fight against the coronavirus.

At AWL we understand that the freight forwarders now hold the torch and are on the forefront of facing the challenge of ensuring that the vaccine along with the Vial, Injections, dose, doses, gloves reach the centres in temperature-controlled (2oC to 8oC) storage and deliveries. This necessarily means that from the airport to the last mile delivery needs to be arranged by procuring walk-in coolers and walk-in freezers that will ensure that the covid19 vaccine reaches the destination safely.

Our every move is equally vital in assuring that the vaccine goes door to door while maintaining the temperatures by the usage of dry ice packaging. Based on the initial reports coming from Pfizer, this means that we will need to prepare very very cold temperature surroundings so that the vaccine is still viable by the time it reaches the destination point.

With AWL backing their processes with real-time GPS & Temperature tracking for deliveries, the truth is that they feel that they are still not ready with all the requirements of ensuring the safe deliveries of the vaccine. This is more the case because there is still so much information that has not been revealed by the vaccine makers. The numbers of people who need to be inoculated with the vaccine are exceptionally large, which means the logistics and supply chain companies need to be ahead in the game.

Our freight forwarders at AWL will play the crucial role of ensuring the last-mile delivery of the essential vaccine happens seamlessly. The vaccines need to be shipped directly from the manufacturing sites to the vaccination sites like GMSD (Government Medical Store Depot). The actual challenge is not the volume but the temperatures that need to be maintained to ensure the safe transport of the covid vaccine. Our freight forwarders who will play the role of the glue that will hold the vaccine distribution together so that the pharma companies can concentrate on the manufacturing and not worry about the logistical challenges.

The main task at hand is overcoming the temperature barrier because the colder the storage requirements the more challenging the logistics will get. Walk-in Cooler, walk-in Freezer and Ice Lined Refrigerators are just some of the basic equipment that we have already procured to transport the covid19 vaccine globally.

As the International Air Transport Association has estimated 8000, 747 flights will be needed to carry single-dose vaccine for 7.8 billion people, we at AWL have understood that obtaining the right cold chain is the biggest challenge that our freight forwarders have to take care of. The containers that are temperature-controlled (2oC to 8oC) storage and deliveries like trucks are not new, however, we have decided that we now need to acquire more numbers of vehicles so that we are prepared to transport the large volumes of vaccines.

The freight forwarders of AWL are ready to ensure that vaccines reach their destination using approved carriers that are able to meet the temperature guidelines. We also have prepared sites that can keep the vaccine cold en route the airport and while in transit.
